Empowering Educators for Health and Social Care Excellence

This programme is ideal for professionals across the NHS, social care, and wider health sectors who support the education or development of others - whether through mentoring, supervising students, leading CPD, or coordinating placements. You don’t need to be in a formal teaching role, but you must have opportunities to support adult learning as part of your day-to-day work.

No prior teaching qualification is required. This apprenticeship provides structured support to help you build your knowledge and confidence in planning, delivering, and evaluating adult education. However, you should be in a role where you can apply and evidence your learning in practice.

Apprentices are expected to dedicate approximately 6 hours per week to off-the-job learning, which includes workshops, self-directed study, workplace activities, and one-to-one coaching. Study is designed to be flexible and integrated into your current role, with support from a dedicated coach and line manager.

Upon successful completion, you will achieve the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship Standard, a nationally recognised teaching qualification. This is equivalent to a foundation degree and may serve as an alternative to a PGCert in Education for many NHS educators.

Training is delivered via a mix of in-person and online monthly workshops, module-specific seminars, guest speaker sessions, and regular one-to-one reviews with your coach.

The programme is fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy for NHS Trusts and other levy-paying organisations. For smaller employers who do not pay into the levy, the government funds 95% of the cost, with the employer contributing just 5%.
